Professional Headshots At Our 415Headshots' Studio

What Is A Professional Headshot?

Professional headshots are a type of portrait photograph that is focused on the face. These professional portraits are typically used for professional purposes such as on business cards, press releases, company websites, social media profiles, and resumés.

Professional headshots are useful for professionals across many industries. Examples of some professions that need professional headshots are businesspeople, writers, scientists, salespeople, lawyers, models, actors, academics, scientists, non-profit professionals, doctors, and more.

Professional headshots focus on highlighting the professional’s personality, confidence, and professionalism.

A good professional headshot photographer will use specific lighting and coach you through poses and wardrobes to help you convey the look you want!

Are Professional Headshots Worth It?

In today's digital world, people form first impressions of others through online platforms, such as LinkedIn, Instagram, company websites, etc. Believe it or not, these virtual first impressions can have a lasting effect on others, such as job recruiters, potential clients/partners, and people that may want to work with you in the future.

People can make first impressions through their photos, bios, and online posts. As a result, having a professional headshot can be essential in making a positive first impression.

Having the right online presence can significantly affect a person's career or success.

What Should You Wear For Professional Headshots?

Your wardrobe all depends on what your headshot will be used for, the industry you're in, and what type of look you're trying to convey!

For business and law industries, we advise to go with a traditional look, such as a suit and tie or a blazer with a simple top.

For a professional headshot as an actor and/or model, it is generally best to wear clothing that is appropriate for the roles you are seeking and that conveys your personal style and personality.

If you are unsure about what to wear for a professional headshot, it may be helpful to ask a professional photographer or someone in your industry for guidance, or to dress in a way that reflects your personal style and the position you hope to have in the future.

How Do You Pose for Professional Headshots?

When it comes to professional headshots, it is generally best to avoid poses that are overly complicated. Simple poses, such as crossing your arms or placing your hands in your pockets, tend to work well, especially for professional business headshots.

The goal is to highlight you in your best light, so it may be helpful to start with some classic, close-up headshots with a smile. As the photo session progresses, you can try out different poses, such as clasping your hands or crossing your arms.

The key is to find a pose that is comfortable and natural for you and that helps to convey your personality and style.

What Color Backdrops Are Used For Professional Headshots?

In the finance and law industries, it is usually best to use neutral-colored backgrounds such as white, off-white, charcoal, gray, or black for professional headshots. These colors give a professional and trustworthy appearance.

On the other hand, professionals in the creative arts or at more relaxed start-ups may want to consider using a colored studio backdrop. Commonly used colored backdrops include green, yellow, blue, and pink. Professionals in these industries may also think about taking their headshots in an outdoor or in-office location to add a personal touch to the photos.

As a professional, it is a good idea to have a variety of headshot options that can be used on different platforms. It is ideal to have a mix of studio backdrops and outdoor headshots in natural light to increase versatility.

What Should You Do To Get Ready for Professional Headshots?

Before coming in for your professional headshot, get ready with these tips:

  1. Make sure to get a great night's of sleep and stay hydrated for a couple of days before your session. A great night's rest and hydration will make sure your skin is glowing before your session.

  2. Make sure to decide on your wardrobe at least a day before your session. If you can't decide, feel free to bring in another wardrobe option. Ensure your wardrobe is clean and ironed before your photo shoot.

The cost of headshots often depends on the number of retouched images included and the rights to use the images from the session.
